Stephan Mathieu, born on October 11, 1967, in Saarbrücken, Germany, is a German mastering engineer and former musician. After abandoning school to pursue hairdressing, Mathieu turned to music in 1989, performing drums and later embracing free improvisation, electroacoustics, and abstract digitala. His breakthrough came with the 2012 single "Radioland (panorámica)" and the 2013 album Un Cœur Simple, released on Baskaru. Mathieu collaborated with artists such as Sylvain Chauveau, David Sylvian, and Taylor Deupree, and contributed to projects on labels including Editions Mego, Important Records, and Kranky. In 2014, he founded Schwebung Mastering in Bonn, where he has mastered recordings for Editions Mego, Sacred Bones, and RVNG Intl., among others. His discography includes the 2018 Radiance boxed set, solidifying his role as a meticulous sound artist and mastering specialist.
