The Blessing were a British rock ensemble from London established in 1987. The group was led by the vocalist William Topley and included Luke Brighty, Kevin Hime-Knowles, Mike Westergaard, and Simon Hanson. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style featuring blues, gospel, soul, and rock. After signing with MCA Records in 1989, they released the debut studio recording Prince of the Deep Water (1991). The recording featured guest musicians including Nicky Hopkins, Richard Tee, Jeff Porcaro, Rickie Lee Jones, and Bruce Hornsby. They achieved professional recognition for the track “Highway 5” (1991) which reached number 42, and later reached number 30 in 1992 after being remixed. Their discography included the track “Hurricane Room” (1991) and the extended play Locusts & Wild Honey (1993). They achieved professional recognition for the studio recording Locusts and Wild Honey (1998). The recording featured the track “Soul Love” (1998) which was produced by Jimmy Miller and reached number 73. The ensemble became inactive following a loss of support from their label. Topley later signed a solo contract with Mercury Records.
