Founded in Parral (Maule Region, Chile) in 2008, Los Potros del Sur built their reputation on a cumbia ranchera sound with bright keyboards, romantic melodies, and party-ready medleys; their first breakthrough came with the 2008 album Donde No Hay Uno Hay Otro y Donde Hay Yegua Hay Potro, highlighted by signature cuts such as “La Múcura y a Quién,” “Aya Yai,” and “El Alacrán.” Through the early 2010s the group expanded its catalog with titles including Si Esto No Es Gueno, Que Es Gueno Cumpa… (2010) and, later, a pair of 2015 sets—Los Potros del Sur and Se pensó, se armó y se hizo—that established them across central and southern Chile’s festival circuit. A modernized studio run followed with Hecho y Derecho and En 3D y a Todo Color in 2019 and the twin 2020 albums Listo, Montao y Armao and Al Frente y De Frente, which yielded fan favorites like “La vecinita” and “Zunguirungui” and helped transition their audience to streaming platforms. Singles activity stepped up again with “Sangre Nueva” and “No Estoy Perdiendo Nada” in 2023, paving the way for a high-profile collaboration in mid-2024—“Se Te Olvidó” with Chilean vocalist Mario Guerrero—alongside their own releases such as “Aunque No Te Lo Merezcas,” “El Enfiestado,” “La Vitrola,” and “Cinco Minutos,” which kept their romantic-cumbia footprint current across radio and streaming platforms. In 2025 the band crowned this phase with the album Éxito, Sabor y Sentimiento and a fresh batch of singles—“Lo Tienes Todo,” “Pirulino,” and “Desvélate Conmigo”—plus the live-style Sesión Fiestas Patrias 2025 EP, reinforcing their standing as one of Chile’s most active cumbia ranchera outfits.
