Sally Barker, born 19 September 1959 in Barrow upon Soar, Leicestershire, is a British singer and songwriter whose career spans folk‑rock and rock music. Early in her life she performed with university‑based groups such as Manitou and The Chapter, recording a session at Pebble Mill Studios while studying in Loughborough. Her first solo release, the single "To Love Somebody" (2014), preceded the studio album Maid in England (2014), which showcased her vocal range and songwriting craft. Barker’s breakthrough came through her role as a founding member of the all‑women folk band the Poozies, where she contributed to albums including Yellow Like Sunshine (2009) and the 1990s recordings that cemented the group’s reputation. She collaborated with notable artists such as Fairport Convention, Taj Mahal, and Richard Thompson, and provided backing vocals on Pete Morton’s Courage, Love and Grace (1997) and Janet Russell’s Gathering the Fragments (1998). In 2014 she reached the final three of BBC One’s The Voice, finishing as runner‑up to Jermain Jackman. Subsequent work included a 2015 tour with Fotheringay, backing vocals on Brooks Williams’ My Turn Now (2016), and a solo tour that concluded in November 2016.
