Mathématiques modernes was a French new wave ensemble from Paris established in 1979. The group consisted of the musicians Edwige Belmore and Claude Arto. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized by new wave. The ensemble was founded by Belmore and Arto. They achieved professional recognition for a career that began after they were granted access to the venue Le Sept for rehearsals between 1978 and 1979. Their recording career began with the single "Disco Rough" (1980) which was produced by the musician Jacno. The recording achieved professional recognition for being named single of the week by the publication NME. Mathématiques modernes achieved professional recognition for the studio recording Les Visiteurs du soir (1981) and the single "Paris Tokyo" (1981). The ensemble achieved professional recognition for the song "Disco Rough" being featured in the movie Je vous hais petites filles (2008) and the movie Une jeunesse dorée (2019). The group became inactive in 1982. Arto died in October 2013. Belmore died on September 22, 2015.
