Mudville, a post-trip-hop band from New York City, was formed in 2002 by vocalist/songwriter Marilyn Carino and bassist/producer Benny "Cha Cha" Rubin. The duo initially recorded an independently-released CD titled Long Island Lulu under Carino's name in 1997 while based in San Francisco. After relocating to New York in 2000, they began collaborating on songs that combined live instruments with digital sampling. Their debut EP, Mudville, was released in 2003 and featured the track "High Rise", co-produced by Billy Talbot of Neil Young and Crazy Horse. The band's first full-length album, The Glory of Man is Not in Vogue, followed in 2005, followed by their second album, Iris Nova, in 2007. Mudville notably won Best Dance/Electronica Song at the Independent Music Awards in 2008 for "Wicked".
