Trio Bulgarka was a Bulgarian vocal ensemble formed in 1975, comprising Stoyanka Boneva of Pirin, Yanka Rupkina of Strandja, and Eva Georgieva of Dobroudja. Before performing as an independent group, the three singers were members of the Ensemble of Folk Songs of the Bulgarian Radio, which was later known as The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices. The group released its debut album, Bulgarka Folk Trio (1985), followed by The Forest Is Crying, also known as Lament for Indje Voivode, in 1988, which was produced by Joe Boyd. In 1989, they released Bulgarka Vocal Trio (1989) and contributed backing vocals to the Kate Bush album The Sensual World (1989) on the tracks “Deeper Understanding”, “Never Be Mine”, and “Rocket's Tail”. The ensemble toured internationally in Europe, the United States, Australia, Israel, and Japan, and won a Grammy Award in 1990. They also recorded on the Bush album The Red Shoes (1993) on the tracks “You're the One”, “The Song of Solomon”, and “Why Should I Love You?” alongside Prince. The trio disbanded in 1999 following a final performance during a rally for the visit of United States President Bill Clinton in Sofia, and Georgieva died in 2004 while Rupkina began a solo career.
