Bobby Parker was an American blues and soul singer and guitarist born as Robert Lee Parker on 31 August 1937 in Lafayette, Louisiana. After working with the ensemble Otis Williams and the Charms in the 1950s he performed as the lead guitarist for Bo Diddley and appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. His recording career began with the track "Suggie, Duggie, Boogie Baby" (1956) with the Paul Williams Orchestra. He achieved professional recognition for the solo single "Blues Get Off My Shoulder" (1958) and the track "Watch Your Step" (1961) which reached number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track influenced the recordings of the Beatles and Led Zeppelin. After relocating to Washington, D.C., he released the track "It's Hard But It's Fair" (1968). His discography includes the studio recordings Bent Out of Shape (1993) and Shine Me Up (1995). He achieved professional recognition for a 2004 performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival with Carlos Santana. His recording career includes the posthumous studio recording Soul of the Blues (2020). Parker died on 31 October 2013.
