Martin Archer was born in 1957 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom. Archer is a saxophonist and composer in the jazz and improvised music genres who became part of the Sheffield improvisational scene by 1973. Influenced by musicians including Evan Parker and Anthony Braxton, Archer recorded a first LP with the formation Bass Tone Trap in the early 1980s. In 1983, he founded the quartet Hornweb, which produced three albums before disbanding in 1993. Archer established the Discus label in 1988 and released the debut solo album Wild Pathway Favourites (1988). Notable works include Ghost Lily Cascade (1996) and collaborations with Julie Tippetts. Discography releases include the albums English Commonflowers (2003), Anthropology Band (2020), and See You Soon or See You Sometime (2022).
