Zap Pow was a Jamaican reggae band founded in 1969 by bassist and vocalist Michael Williams and guitarist Dwight Pinkney. The group emerged from Kingston’s vibrant music scene, with Williams previously drumming for Bobby Aitken’s Caribbeats and Pinkney playing with the Sharks. Their breakthrough came with the single "This is Reggae Music" and the 1971 debut album Revolutionary Zap Pow on Harry J. In 1976, the release of Zap Pow Now reached the top of the UK reggae chart, and the follow‑up Revolution (1976) expanded their international presence. The band dissolved in 1979, with members Beres Hammond launching a solo career and Pinkney joining Roots Radics. After a 2016 re‑formation, Zap Pow issued Zap Pow Again in 2017, honoring their legacy at the 2007 Prime Minister’s Gala.
