A Friend in London was formed in 2005 in Vostrup, Denmark, by a group of boarding school friends who later adopted the name A Friend in London. The group’s early breakthrough came with the single "Thoughts of a Boheme" in 2005, followed by "Shoot Me", which received airplay on Danish radio station P3. In 2008 the band won the European leg of the Bodog Million Dollar Battle of the Bands, leading to tours in Canada and the United States. In 2011 they entered the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with "New Tomorrow", written by Lise Cabble and Jakob Glæsner, and secured the Danish preselection before representing Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf, where the entry finished fifth with 134 points. The same year the band released the single "Calling a Friend" and toured with New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys. The debut album Unite was issued on 21 January 2013, featuring collaborations with Howie D from the Backstreet Boys and Carly Rae Jepsen on "Rest from the Streets". Following the departure of three founding members in 2013, the remaining line‑up continued briefly before announcing a permanent split in 2014.
