Ensemble Syntagma was a vocal and instrumental ensemble of ancient music formed in 1996 in Metz. The group was established by the Russian composer and lute player Alexandre Danilevsky. The ensemble concentrated on the recovery of forgotten repertoires from the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods and featured vocalists alongside wind and string instrumentalists. The group released its debut studio recording, Musique Baroque Russe, in 2002 through the label Pierre Verany. Its discography included the albums Touz Esforciez - Trouvères en Lorraine au XIIIe Siècle (2004) and Remembrance - Gautier d'Épinal (2007). In 2008, the ensemble released the recording Stylems - Italian Music from the Trecento through Challenge Classics. The group received recognition for its work, including being a finalist for an Edison Award in 2008. The ensemble’s later work included the recordings Rosa e Orticha - Musique du Trecento (2011) and The Uncertainty Principle (2012).
