Longing for Dawn was a Canadian funeral doom metal band formed in 2002 by guitarist Frederic Arbour and singer Stefan Laroche. The duo, who had previously collaborated on various projects, founded Longing for Dawn with the intention of creating a funeral doom project. They were joined by drummer Martin Gagnon, bassist Kevin Jones, and guitarist Stian Weideborg. In 2005, the band released their debut album One Lonely Path. Following successful concerts in Quebec, Longing for Dawn signed a three-album deal with Grau Records. The lineup underwent changes, with Sylvain Marquette and François Fortin taking over drumming duties, Etienne Lepage replacing Jones on bass, and Simon Carignan Bouchard joining as the second guitarist after Weideborg's departure. This stable lineup released A Treacherous Ascension in 2007 and Between Elation and Despair in 2009. The band toured internationally but ceased activities following their last performances in 2011.
