Bacchae was an American punk rock quartet formed in Washington, D.C., in 2016. Comprising vocalist and keyboardist Katie McD, bassist Rena Hagins, drummer Eileen O'Grady, and guitarist Andrew Breiner, the ensemble derived its name from the ancient Greek tragedy by Euripides. Following a demo release in 2016, the band self-released its debut studio album, Down the Drain, in 2017. They subsequently signed with the Philadelphia label Get Better Records, which issued the group's self-titled EP in 2018. Their discography expanded with the full-length albums Pleasure Vision (2020) and Next Time (2024), as well as the 2019 digital single “Everything Ugly” and the 2021 live recording Bacchae on Left of the Dial Live. Frequently compared to The B-52's and The Cure, the group was recognized for its role in the contemporary D.C. punk scene. Bacchae became inactive in September 2024 after announcing their dissolution via social media.
