Wilson Anthony "Boozoo" Chavis, born on October 23, 1930, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, was an accordionist, singer-songwriter, and bandleader known for his contributions to zydeco music. Chavis made his first recording in 1955 with "Paper in My Shoe", which became one of the earliest commercially released zydeco songs and a regional hit. Despite initial success, he only released three more singles over the next 30 years due to disputes with record labels. He returned to performing regularly in 1984 after discovering another musician impersonating him. This led to a series of album releases including Louisiana Zydeco Music (1986) and Boozoo Chavis (1991). Chavis passed away on May 5, 2001.
