Kurt Gluck, known professionally as Submerged, is an American DJ, bassist, record producer, and label owner. Born in Rosedale, Queens, New York, he began playing clarinet and bass clarinet in school bands. In 1999, he founded Ohm Resistance, a collective and label focused on progressive electronic music. His collaborations with Bill Laswell include the drum and bass-jazz fusion project Method of Defiance. Their collaboration album, Brutal Calling, was released in 2004. Submerged's solo work includes the mixed album Violence As First Nature (2008) and the studio album Before Fire I Was Against Other People, which was released on March 29, 2011. He also performed live with artists such as Milford Graves, John Zorn, and Mike Patton. He toured extensively across North America, Europe, and Asia, notably with Scorn in 2011. His work pushed the boundaries of electronic music, incorporating elements from various genres and featuring confrontational visual artwork.
