The Prefects were a British punk rock band from Birmingham, England. Formed in 1976 by singer Robert Lloyd and guitarist/drummer brothers Alan and Paul Apperley, they became one of the first wave of UK punk bands. Their debut gig on March 12, 1977, ended in a police raid. The band supported the Clash's White Riot Tour and performed with notable acts like Buzzcocks and the Slits. In 1978, Paul Apperley left the band, replaced by Stephanie Nuttall and later Adrian Moran. They recorded two sessions for John Peel’s radio show in 1978 and 1979. No records were released until after their split, with the single "Going Through the Motions"/"Things in General" on Rough Trade coming out in 1980. In 2004, a retrospective compilation Amateur Wankers was released by Acute Records, garnering widespread praise.
