Márcio Montarroyos, born on July 8, 1948, in Rio de Janeiro, was a Brazilian jazz trumpeter. He initially studied classical piano before transitioning to the trumpet and jazz. In the 1970s, Montarroyos studied jazz at the Berklee College of Music. His career included notable collaborations with artists such as Stevie Wonder, Sérgio Mendes, Sarah Vaughan, Hermeto Pascoal, Nancy Wilson, Egberto Gismonti, Carlos Santana, Milton Nascimento, Ella Fitzgerald, Tom Jobim, and Ney Matogrosso. Montarroyos released several albums, including Marcio Montarroyos / Stone Alliance (1977), Carioca (1983), Terra Mater (1989), and Samba Solstice (1989). He also performed in concerts produced by Swiss television in 1988 and German television ZDF in 1992. Montarroyos passed away on December 12, 2007, due to complications from lung cancer.
