Soul de Brasileiro, the tuning of a people.
When I first saw the voices of José Junior, Negra Silva and Ge Vieira together—like a bouquet—I was struck. I tried to find a word that could translate my astonishment. It was a punch to the soul, in the best metaphor, as I like to say: there is fury in beauty.
They are three young people from the suburbs who began singing in church and discovered their talent there, realizing that what they truly wanted was to sing. The voice is a treasure. Especially in this case—a treasure that comes from the mouths of these boys, these young people who believed in a dream and kept overcoming the improbable. Because overcoming the improbable is not easy. These three voices combined, capable of illuminated arrangements and virtuosic vocal runs, move us deeply. A great role of art is to provoke the living, to inspire them to walk their path. For the soul of Brazil—the Soul de Brasileiro—is in itself an inspiring jewel.
I feel privileged to have met them and to have had them brought into my home on a very magical soirée day. What a shock. What brilliance was seen there. It felt like there was an orchestra with them. It was an indescribable emotional experience. Their resounding singing, their soul present in each voice—individual and collective—reminds us of the high African philosophy of Ubuntu: I am because we are.
The voices have individual power and each one is beautiful on its own too, but together they form something else, another being, another song—and everyone shines!!!
