Megaptera is a Swedish death-industrial ensemble from Oxelösund formed in 1991. The group was established by Mikael Svensson and Magnus Åslund, and later included the musician Peter Nyström. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized by hypnotic industrial loops and metallischen rhythms. Their recording career began with the debut studio recording Near Death (1991). Their discography includes the studio recordings Songs from the Massive Darkness (1992), Beyond the Shadow (1994), and Disease (1996). After Svensson departed in 1998, Nyström continued the ensemble as a solo project. Their discography includes the studio recordings The Curse of the Scarecrow (1998), Disturbance Ritual (2006), and Nailed on Vinyl (2014). Their recording career includes the compilation Beyond the Massive Darkness (2001).
