Steven R. Smith is an American musician, composer, and instrument builder from California, associated with the Jewelled Antler collective. Active since the mid-1990s, he is known for his eclectic instrumental music, drawing on psychedelic rock, folk, free jazz, and film soundtracks. Although primarily a guitarist, Smith also performs on instruments including the hurdy-gurdy, bouzouki, and spike fiddle. He has released numerous solo recordings on independent labels such as Important Records, Soft Abuse, Darla Records, and Emperor Jones. Beyond his solo work, Smith has performed with groups including Mirza, Thuja, Hala Strana, and the Ulaan projects, exploring improvisational and Eastern European-inspired musical traditions. His solo discography includes albums like Gehenna Belvedere (1995), Owl (2007), and Triecade (2025).
