The Hylozoists, a Canadian instrumental rock supergroup, were formed in 2001 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The band was conceived by producer Paul Aucoin as a side project, with their debut album La Nouvelle Gauche recorded in his studio using local musicians from Halifax. In 2004, Aucoin relocated to Toronto and revived the group, this time collaborating with musicians from bands such as The Weakerthans and Cuff the Duke. Their second album, La Fin Du Monde, was released in 2006, followed by L'Île De Sept Villes in 2009, which received a Juno Award nomination for Instrumental Album of the Year in 2010. Throughout their career, The Hylozoists were known for their unique instrumentation and orchestration, blending classical and indie elements to create a cinematic sound.
