Abecedarians were an American post-punk trio from Newport Beach, California, active between 1983 and 1995. The ensemble consisted of Chris Manecke, Kevin Dolan, and John Blake. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized as sparse, guitar-driven post-punk. Their recording career began with the track “Smiling Monarchs” (1985), which was mixed by Bernard Sumner. They released the debut studio recording Eureka (1986), followed by the studio recordings Resin (1988) and AB-CD (1988). Their discography includes the compilation The Other Side of the Fence (1990), featuring recordings from 1983 to 1985. An instrumental edit of the track “Soil” (1986) was included in the film Billabong: Surf Into Summer (1987).
