Test Dept. was a British industrial music group formed in 1981 in New Cross, London by core members Graham Cunnington, Paul Jamrozy, Jonathan Toby Burdon, Paul Hines and Angus Farquhar. They signed to Some Bizzare Records, known for acts like Depeche Mode and Soft Cell. Test Dept.'s approach involved using "found" material to create complex percussion and high-energy live performances. Their discography includes collaborations such as Shoulder to Shoulder (1985) with the South Wales Striking Miners' Choir, and notable albums like The Unacceptable Face of Freedom (1986), which received critical acclaim from The New York Times. The band split in 1997 but re-emerged in 2014 with large-scale film installations like 'DS30' and the release of Disturbance (2019).
