Nirvana 2002, a Swedish death metal band, originally called Prophet 2002, but later adopted the name Nirvana. After seeing an advertisement for Nirvana's debut single "Love Buzz", released in 1988, they were prompted to add "2002" to their name. The group is recognized as part of the first wave of Swedish death metal, known for their crushing guitars and straightforward song structures. The band released several demos and rehearsals, primarily recorded at Sunlight Studios in Stockholm. In 2007, the band performed their gig at Kafé 44 to celebrate the publication of Swedish Death Metal. Their recordings gained continued interest, leading Relapse Records to compile them into Recordings 89–91 (2009). The band performed their final show at Maryland Deathfest on May 30, 2010.
