Amorroma, a Belgian acoustic folk music duo, was founded in 2000 by Jowan Merckx. The group consists of himself and Sarah Ridy. The group's roots lie in traditional European folk-dance music, with Merckx contributing as composer, recorder player, singer, and bagpiper, while Ridy played the harp. Amorroma performs their concerts as a duo, but also performs as a trio, quartet, quintet, and sextet. The other members of the group are Vincent Noiret, Maarten Decombel, Elly Aerden, and Toon van Mierlo. All members held qualifications from prestigious music academies. Amorroma began their career with the album Op Voyage in 2001, followed by notable releases such as Carduelis (2003) and Balance (2006). The group is known for its unique sound, featuring the recorder as a main instrument, and often performs in various ensemble sizes. Their music program includes dance music based on poems by Merckx and traditional French lyrics. Amorroma has collaborated with other artists, including Zefiro Torna and Traces, in projects like Les Tisserands, which explores medieval themes.
