Trip Shakespeare was an American alternative rock band from Minneapolis active from the mid-1980s to early 1990s. The group included Matt Wilson (guitar/vocals), Elaine Harris (drums), Dan Wilson and John Munson . The band originated when Wilson, then an English student at Harvard University, teamed up with Harris in the early 1980s. Their debut album Applehead Man was released in 1986. After Tim Rowe left, Dan Wilson joined the group and they released their follow-up album, Are You Shakespearienced? in 1988. The band signed with A&M Records and released Across the Universe in 1990, featuring "Snow Days" and "The Crane". Lulu, their final major release in 1991, was praised for its melodic complexity but had modest sales. Trip Shakespeare disbanded shortly after the release of Lulu.
