Great Plains was an American progressive country pop band formed in 1987 in Nashville, Tennessee. The ensemble originally comprised vocalist and guitarist Jack Sundrud, guitarist Russ Pahl, and drummer Michael Young, later adding bassist Denny Dadmun-Bixby. Under the production of Brent Maher and Don Potter, the group released its eponymous debut album, Great Plains, in 1991. The record produced the hit singles "A Picture of You", which reached number 48 on the Billboard country charts, and "Faster Gun", which peaked at number 41. Following the departure of Pahl and Young in 1992, Sundrud and Bixby were joined by multi-instrumentalist Lex Browning. Despite being dropped by Sony in 1993, the band was nominated for Top New Vocal Group or Duet by the Academy of Country Music that year. They subsequently signed with Magnatone Records and released their final studio album, Homeland, in 1996. This release featured the singles "Dancin' with the Wind" and "Wolverton Mountain". Great Plains disbanded in late 1996.
