Single Bullet Theory, an American new wave band from Richmond, Virginia was formed in 1976. The group began as X‑Breed and changed its name when new members joined the original trio. Single Bullet Theory released a self-titled EP through Artifact Records in 1977 and was opening for Patti Smith by 1979. In 1981, they issued the single "Peggy Got Her Eyes Full" / "There Is The Boy", followed by "Keep It Tight" in 1982, which appeared on MTV and reached number 78 on the Billboard Hot 100. The same year, the band signed with Nemperor, a CBS subsidiary, and released their self‑titled album; the single "Hang On To Your Heart" was test‑marketed in the U.S. Virgin Islands and peaked at Number 1 before promotion was withdrawn and the group disbanded. Through the years, members have included Michael Maurice Garrett, Frank Daniel, Dennis Madigan, and Mark Lewis.
