Carl Wilhelm Eugen Stenhammar, born on February 7, 1871, in Stockholm, Sweden, was a prominent Swedish composer, pianist, and conductor. He studied piano, organ, and composition in Stockholm from 1887 to 1892 and debuted as a pianist in the spring of 1892. Stenhammar made his first public appearance as a conductor in October 1897 and served as Kapellmeister at the Royal Opera in Stockholm from 1900 to 1901. He later became the chief conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra from 1907 to 1922, during which he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Gothenburg in 1916. Stenhammar's compositions are rooted in late Romanticism, with notable works including "Excelsior!", Symphony No. 2 in G Minor, and the Serenade F major op. 31. He passed away on November 20, 1927, in Stockholm.
