Sweep The Leg Johnny, an American indie rock band formed in 1996, was named after a line from the film The Karate Kid. Alto saxophonist and vocalist Steve Sostak and guitarist Chris Daly met while attending the University of Notre Dame. After graduating, they moved to Chicago and recruited drummer Scott Anna and bassist Matt Alicea. Their first releases included a split single with Streganona and the "New Buffalo" single on Divot Records in 1996. The band's debut album, 4.9.21.30, was released in 1997, followed by Tomorrow We Will Run Faster in 1999 on Southern Records. After several lineup changes and hiatuses, Sweep The Leg Johnny released their final studio album, Going Down Swingin', in 2002. Vocalist Steve Sostak died in February 2023 at the age of 49.
