Callisto is a Finnish post-metal band from Turku formed in 2001. Their early recording career includes the single “Dying Desire” (2001) and the extended play Ordeal of the Century (2002), which featured hardcore and metalcore influences. They released their debut studio album, True Nature Unfolds (2004), which incorporated sludge metal and doom elements. The record received worldwide distribution through Earache Records in 2005. Their second studio recording, Noir (2006), introduced jazz leanings and unconventional rock instruments such as the saxophone and flute. The ensemble shifted toward vocal-driven music with the addition of vocalist Jani Ala-Hukkala for the album Providence (2009), which reached number 23 on the Finnish charts. They returned after a period of inactivity with the studio recording Secret Youth (2015), which peaked at number 37. The group has headlined several tours in Europe and performed as a support act for High on Fire in the United Kingdom in 2005.
