Bijan Mortazavi, born بیژن مرتضوی on November 16, 1957 in Juybar, Iran, is a virtuoso violinist and singer. He began his musical journey at three under Masoud Namazian, initially focusing on music theory before transitioning to the violin. By seven, he was proficient in multiple instruments. Mortazavi's first significant achievement came at eleven when he won a national music contest in Iran. Mortazavi moved to California in 1985 and released his debut album Bijan Mortazavi: The Magic of His Music and His Songs (Bijan Mortazavi 1) in 1990, which became a best-seller among Persian albums that year. He performed at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles in 1994, becoming the first Iranian musician featured there. Notable collaborations include working with singers such as Moein and Hayedeh. In 2017, Southampton Solent University awarded him an honorary degree of Doctor of Music for his contributions to contemporary Middle Eastern music.
