Gleaming Spires was an American new wave pop group active from 1981 to 1985. Formed by members of the band Sparks, the lineup featured vocalist Leslie Bohem and drummer David Kendrick. They initially performed as Bates Motel before signing with Posh Boy Records on the strength of the track “Are You Ready for the Sex Girls?” (1981). The song became a radio hit and was featured in the films The Last American Virgin and Revenge of the Nerds. They released their debut studio album Songs of the Spires (1981), followed by the extended play Life Out on the Lawn (1982). Their subsequent studio albums include Walk on Well Lighted Streets (1983) and Welcoming a New Ice Age (1985). They also issued the Party EP (1984), also known as the Funk for Children EP. In 2021, Omnivore Recordings reissued their three studio albums on compact disc and streaming services, including various bonus tracks and memorabilia.
