Champian Fulton, born September 12, 1985, in Norman, Oklahoma, is an American jazz pianist and vocalist. She began piano at five, studied at SUNY Purchase with Jon Faddis, and moved to New York City to pursue music. Her debut Champian (2007) was followed by Sometimes I’m Happy (2010), Champian Sings and Swings (2013), the live album Change Partners (2014), After Dark (2016), Speechless (2017), The Breeze and I (2017), Christmas with Champian (2017), and The Stylings of Champian (2018). Fulton performed at Birdland, Smalls Jazz Club, and the Carlyle Hotel, collaborated with Jimmy Cobb and Scott Hamilton, and played at the Rochester International Jazz Festival and the Detroit Jazz Festival. She received the 2007 Village Voice Rookie of the Year, the 2014 Down Beat Rising Star – Female Vocalist, and the 2017 Hot House Jazz Fan Decision Awards Female Vocalist of the Year.
