James McCauley, known professionally as Maggotron, is an American electronic and hip hop record producer and disc jockey who is one of the pioneers of Miami bass music. McCauley is also known by pseudonyms including DXJ, Maggozulu Too, Planet Detroit, and Bass Master Kahn. The producer debuted with the EP Planet Detroit Vs The Roxanne Plague (1985) and released the singles “Bass Invaders” (1988) and “Return To The Planet Of Bass” (1988). In 1989, the artist released the album The Invasion Will Not Be Televised on Jamarc, and later released the single “Mission: Electro” (2007) on Debonaire Records. Notable collaborations include working with Bass Mekanik on the album Bass Alien – Tales from the Lo-Zone (2000). Subsequent full-length releases include The Bass that Ate Miami (1988), The Miami Bass Express (1989), Bass Planet Paranoia (1990), and Forever (1996). Maggotron influenced genres including breakbeat, crunk, and ghettotech, and worked with record labels such as Pandisc and Jamarc.
