The New Birth Brass Band, formed by trumpeter and vocalist James Andrews, aimed to revitalize the New Orleans brass band tradition. The band's debut album, D-Boy, produced by Allen Toussaint, was released in 1997. In 2004, they released their second album, New Birth Family. Two years later, the band put out New Orleans Second Line!. The New Birth Brass Band's music often featured a mix of sacred dirges, church hymns, and traditional standards with a modern twist.
