Samuel McClain, known professionally as Mighty Sam McClain, born in 1943 in Monroe, Louisiana, was a rhythm and blues singer. He began singing at five years old, and by fifteen, he was performing with local rhythm and blues guitarist Little Melvin Underwood on the Chitlin' Circuit as a lead vocalist. In 1966, McClain met producer Papa Don Schroeder and recorded a cover of Patsy Cline's "Sweet Dreams" (1966). Subsequent sessions produced the singles "Fannie-May" and "In the Same Old Way". By the early 1990s, he released the albums Give It Up to Love (1992) and Keep On Movin' (1995). He subsequently released the album Sledgehammer Soul and Down Home Blues (1996). He signed with Telarc Blues in 1999, recording the Blues Music Award-nominated album Blues for the Soul (2000) and Sweet Dreams (2001). McClain died in 2015.
