Los Tontos, a Uruguayan rock group formed in 1984, emerged from Montevideo’s post‑dictatorship music scene. The founding lineup featured Leonardo Baroncini on drums, Renzo Teflón on vocals and guitar, and Santiago Tavella on bass, before Tavella departed in 1985. Their debut studio album, Los Tontos (1986), produced hits such as "Himno de los conductores imprudentes" and earned a gold certification in Uruguay; the single, "Mi guatercló azul (ayer se me perdió)," reached number 3 on the Chilean charts in 1987. In 1987, the group released Tontos Al Natural, which also achieved gold status within a month and included "La cuchara," which topped the El Dorado radio charts. After internal disputes, the trio disbanded in 1988, with Teflón releasing a solo album and later reforming the band with new members.
