Dick Jacobs, born Richard Jacobs on March 29, 1918, in New York City, was an American musician, conductor, arranger, and music director. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and later arranged music for Tommy Dorsey and Sy Oliver. He became the musical director for the television series Your Hit Parade for its 1957 to 1958 season. He produced notable acts like the McGuire Sisters and Teresa Brewer, and achieved a hit single with the song "“Kathy-O”" (1958), the theme tune from the movie Kathy-O. His recording of "“Man with the Golden Arm”" sold over one million copies and was awarded a gold disc in 1956. Other notable hits include the songs "“Main Title”" (1956), "“Molly-O”" (1956), "“Petticoats of Portugal”" (1956), and "“Fascination”" (1957). He brought a lush instrumental orchestral sound to rock and roll songs for artists like Buddy Holly and the Bowties. He retired in the late 1970s, co-wrote the reference book Who Wrote That Song?, and died on May 20, 1988, in New York City at the age of 70.
