haloblack was an American industrial rock group formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota by Bryan Barton. In 1992, haloblack released their first cassette HB2. Musicians Olivier Grasset and Arianne Schreiber joined to form a band, and they signed with Fifth Colvmn Records in 1994, releasing their debut album Tension Filter that year. The music was praised for its compositional depth. Following the release of the Raw Tension EP in 1995, haloblack shifted to a less guitar-driven sound for their third album :funkyhell:, released in 1996. This album was heavily influenced by electronica and featured the track "Distractor". After moving to London in the late 1990s, Barton began working on a third album inspired by electronic music, including Maxinquaye by Tricky. The resulting album, Throb, was released in 2004 under Armalyte Industries and The Sick City labels.
