Giuseppe Ottaviano Basile, known professionally as Joss Baselli, was born on September 19, 1926, in Somain, France. He began studying music theory at age six and started playing the accordion two years later. He then started playing at the family café and joining competitions. Joss Baselli moved to Paris in 1950 and became a prominent figure on Philips Records. He accompanied artists such as Patachou and Barbara and released albums under his stage name Jo Basile, including Accordéon de Paris (1957), Accordeon di Roma (1958), Rio with Love (1961), Movie Theme Hits (1963), Bossa Nova (1963), and Around the World (1966). In 1964, he directed the Folies Bergère in New York. He composed music for films like L'astragale (1968) and television series such as Schulmeister, l'espion de l'empereur (1971). Joss Baselli also wrote the music for the song "Free again" ("Non, c'est rien") for Barbra Streisand and Mireille Mathieu. He died on September 5, 1982 in Mâcon.
