Serge Franklin is a French sitarist and composer who was born in 1942 in Montluçon. He began a professional artistic career in the 1960s as a singer-songwriter before transitioning to work as a studio musician. He is famous for his mastery of the sitar, which he perfected during a period of study in India in 1970, and for his extensive work in film and television. Franklin collaborated frequently with the director Alexandre Arcady, composing the scores for his first five films, including Le Coup de sirocco (1979) and Le Grand Pardon (1982). His career also encompassed stage music for the Jean-Vilar and Renaud-Barrault companies. Since 1978, he has composed prolifically for television, notably for the series Une famille formidable.
