Brain Drill, a technical death metal band from Santa Cruz, California, was formed in 2005 by guitarist Dylan Ruskin. The group initially began as a side project for Ruskin after his departure from Burn at the Stake. Brain Drill's first release was the EP The Parasites, recorded in 2006 with producer Zack Ohren. The band signed with Metal Blade Records and released their debut album, Apocalyptic Feasting, in 2008. Following internal conflicts and lineup changes, Brain Drill released their second album, Quantum Catastrophe, in 2010. The band returned with Boundless Obscenity in 2016. The group disbanded in 2019.
