Martín Melitón Pablo de Sarasate y Navascués, known as Pablo de Sarasate, was born on March 10, 1844, in Pamplona, Spain. He performed publicly at eight and studied at the Paris Conservatory under Delphin Alard, winning first prizes in violin and solfège by 1857. Sarasate toured extensively across Europe and both Americas starting in 1859. He acquired a Stradivarius violin in 1866, which he used until his death. His compositions, such as Zigeunerweisen (1878) and Carmen-Fantaisie (1883), highlighted his virtuosity. Sarasate's legacy includes being the dedicatee of significant works like Édouard Lalo’s Symphonie espagnole. He passed away on September 20, 1908, in Biarritz.
