Bettina Hoffmann, who was born in 1959 in Düsseldorf, Germany, is a German viola da gambist, cellist, musicologist, and music pedagogue. She studied cello at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim under Daniel Grosgurin and viola da gamba under Wieland Kuijken. After moving to Florence in 1982, she became the director of the Medieval and Renaissance ensemble of Modo Antiquo, which was founded by her husband, Federico Maria Sardelli. Her extensive discography of over seventy recordings includes the album Dança Amorosa (1995), Domenico Gabrielli's Vollständige Werke für Violoncello (2001), and Girolamo Frescobaldi's Arie musicali (2009). Two recordings by Modo Antiquo with her participation received Grammy nominations in 1997 and 2000. Her musicological work includes books such as La Viola da Gamba (2010) and critical editions of works by Antonio Vivaldi and Silvestro Ganassi.
