Yosef "Jo" Amar, born June 1, 1930, in Settat, Morocco, was a Moroccan-Israeli singer. He began his career in the late 1940s in Morocco and emigrated to Israel in 1956. Amar performed with Lilith Nagar at the 1960 Israel Song Festival, winning third place with "Leil HaChag." He pioneered Moroccan Jewish liturgical music in Israel and became known for Mizrahi music. Amar moved to New York City in 1970, returning to Israel two decades later. He recorded over 20 albums. Amar died on June 26, 2009, at the age of 79.
