Hiretsukan, an American rock music group from Washington D.C., formed in 1998. The group's lineup included Michelle Proffit (vocals), Dave Sanders (guitar, backing vocals), Derek Wimble (bass), and Justin Williams (drums). Their music incorporated elements of hardcore punk with melodic indie rock riffs, often in 6/8 time, and featured politically charged lyrics. The band initially recorded their Brown Bag demo and embarked on small tours before relocating to New York City. In early 2002, Hiretsukan released their debut EP Invasive//Exotic with producer Don Fury on G7 Welcoming Committee Records and was followed by a brief tour, after which the band split up in the same year. Hiretsukan reformed in late 2003 and released their first full-length album, End States, in 2005, again on G7 Welcoming Committee Records.
