My Dad Is Dead was an American rock musical project formed in 1984 by Mark Edwards in Cleveland, Ohio. Initially a drummer in bands like Thermos of Happiness and Riot Architecture, Edwards transitioned to guitar and vocals under the My Dad Is Dead moniker, named after his father's death. The group released their debut album ...and He's Not Gonna Take It Anymore on St. Valentine Records in 1986. They signed to Homestead Records in 1988, releasing three albums: The Best Defense, Let's Skip The Details, and The Taller You Are, the Shorter You Get. My Dad Is Dead disbanded in 2011 following the release of their final album A New Clear Route on Edwards' own label Unhinged.
