Datblygu was a Welsh experimental rock group from Cardigan formed in 1982 by vocalist David R. Edwards and instrumentalist T. Wyn Davies while at Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi. The band initially released four cassette-only EPs on Casetiau Neon before securing their first vinyl release in 1987 with Hwgr-Grawth-Og EP on Anhrefn Records. This led to a session for John Peel's BBC Radio 1 show and the 1988 album Wyau. After Davies left in 1990, Datblygu continued as a duo and released the albums Pyst (1990) and Libertino (1993) until their split in 1995 following the single "Alcohol"/"Amnesia". The band's legacy included influences on Welsh bands like Gorky's Zygotic Mynci and Super Furry Animals. They returned in 2012 and Datblygu received recognition with the 2020 album Cwm Gwagle, which ranked number 2 in The Quietus' list of 2020's Best of Weird Britain. Edwards passed away on June 22, 2021.
